‘Inside Out 2’ Dominates It’s Opening Weekend at The Box Office

Pixar has finally made their return as box office juggernaut with the release of Inside Out 2.

The highly-anticipated sequel grossed $155 million at the domestic box office over Father’s Day weekend. Globally, the movie grossed $140 million, worldwide total to $295 million. The worldwide total marks the biggest opening of all time for an animated film in like-for-like markets when accounting for exchange rates.

In terms of top animated domestic opening, Incredibles 2 from Pixar holds the record with $182.7 million. It was previously followed by The Super Mario Bros. Movie from Illumination and Universal, which earned $146.4 million. Inside Out 2 has now surpassed The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Other films on the list include Finding Dory from Pixar with $135.1 million and Frozen II from Walt Disney Animation with $130.3 million.

Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.

Maya Hawke lends her voice to Anxiety, alongside Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust. Directed by Kelsey Mann and produced by Mark Nielsen.
