Let’s get dangerous.
Disney has officially greenlit a new Darkwing Duck animated series for Disney+, and Mark Hamill will voice the crime fighter himself. Seth Rogen is voicing Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan is playing Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilimar joins the cast as a new character named Duckie.
The story gives Darkwing a nightmare only he could truly appreciate: he has spent 35 years trapped in an alternate world where nobody has ever heard of him. When Duckie shows up knowing exactly who he is, she pulls him back into action. Together, they’ll face familiar villains Negaduck and Megavolt and reunite with Launchpad, Gosalyn and Morgana.
Hamill stepping into a role made famous by Jim Cummings is a huge change. But the setup sounds like it understands the joke at the heart of Darkwing Duck. Saving the universe matters. Making sure everyone knows he saved it matters just as much.
Rogen is also producing the series with Evan Goldberg and their Point Grey Pictures team. Original Darkwing Duck creator Tad Stones consulted on the project. Disney describes the show as a continuation of the franchise, and no premiere date has been announced.
After years of wondering whether this series would ever take flight, Darkwing finally has a green light. St. Canard, get ready.
