‘Kang’s Dynasty’ Is No More: ‘Avengers 5’ Gets New Title & Release Date

A few weeks ago, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Marvel Studios was pivoting away from using Kang the Conqueror following controversy surrounding actor Jonathan Major, who played the character in the MCU.

Saturday, during Marvel Hall H panel at Comic-Con, that report was seemingly confirmed when Kevin Feige and company revealed that the next Avengers film won’t be named Kang’s Dynasty – as it was previously announced two years ago. Instead, the film will now be called Avengers: Doomsday.

And if the title isn’t a big enough hint, it will finally introduce famed comic book character and villain Doctor Doom into the MCU.

In an even bigger turn of events, it was revealed that the studio had chosen to bring Robert Downey Jr. back to play the character. Right now, it’s unclear if he will appear as the character’s original real-life persona Victor Von Doom or a Tony Stark variant who becomes Doom.

The Russo Bros. will direct the film, as well as its planned sequel Avengers: Secret Wars. Both films will be written by Stephen McFeely, the scribe who previously penned all of the prior Russo Bros/Marvel movies from Winter Soldier to Endgame.

Prior to the Jonathan Majors controversy AND last year’s Hollywood strikes, both films were planned to come out next year. Avengers: Doomsday will now arrive in 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars will arrive in 2027.
