Earlier today it was revealed that Marvel Studios alums Joe and Anthony Russo are in talks to return to helm the next two Avengers films. While that is massive news in and of itself, The Hollywood Reporter, who first broke the story, seemingly buried a major update about the next Avengers in their article too.
According to the outlet, Avengers 5, which was originally announced as Avengers: Kang Dynasty, will no longer have that title. It goes without saying that it will no longer focus on said dynasty either.
The outlet goes on to say that the feature is expected to get a new name and a new focus. At this time, however, it’s unclear what the focus might be. Interestingly enough, the name for the 6th Avengers film is still going to be called Avengers: Secret Wars. So this means Marvel will just need to find a way to bridge the gap to that climax.

Now, earlier this year we did report that Marvel was retooling the script to minimize Kang’s role in the film, but this latest update seems to affirm that the studio is ready to move in an entirely different direction.
The news of Kang’s (tentative?) removal from Marvel’s blueprint is no surprise, considering actor Jonathan Majors’ assault conviction late last year. Between his roles in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed 3, Majors was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars on the rise. Just hours after his conviction in December, however, he was fired by Marvel. And the role of Kang the Conqueror, billed as the MCU’s next big threat, was left vacant.
Although the finale of Loki season 2 postponed Kang the Conqueror’s return, his return is inevitable. But ever since the news regarding Majors first broke it has become increasingly unclear if the studio plans to recast him. Recently, Colman Domingo and John David Washington have come up as potential replacements but the role still remains available.
