Hot off the resounding success of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell officially announced that there are plans for the next installment in the iconic Planet of the Apes franchise.
Following the release of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which has been praised for its stunning visual effects, emotional depth, and intelligent storytelling, it comes as no surprise that the studio is eager to push the story forward. The film grossed over $395 million globally. Director Wes Ball, who helmed Kingdom, is expected to return for the new project but nothing is set in stone yet.
We can speculate that the story will pick up where Kingdom left off, further delving into the rise of ape civilization and the ongoing struggle for dominance between humans and apes. The post-apocalyptic Earth has proven to be fertile ground for philosophical and moral questions, a hallmark of the franchise since its inception in 1968. Fans can expect more of the same intelligent exploration of themes like survival, power, and the nature of humanity.
Stars of the Kingdom cast, including Owen Teague as Cornelius, the future leader of the apes, and Freya Allan, whose performance as a human ally earned critical praise, would likely reprise their roles. However, new cast members and characters could be introduced as the world expands and new conflicts arise.
