Screenwriter Steven Knight has left the upcoming Star Wars film, which will continue the story of Daisy Ridley’s character, Rey, in the aftermath of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Lucasfilm is currently in discussions with possible writers for the project, which is rumored to focus on Rey’s quest to establish a new Jedi Academy. However, the delays suggest that production may not begin until at least 2025.
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy remains set to direct the film, marking her debut in feature filmmaking. She has previously directed episodes of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel and has won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film twice. Recently, she spoke about her latest documentary on designer Diane von Furstenberg, which premiered on Hulu in June.
