Just when you thought one of Marvel Studios’ best franchises couldn’t get any better, it’s about to.
During an interview with the Australian version of NBC’s The Today Show, Denzel Washington was asked about his upcoming roles. He was obviously on the show to promote his performance in the upcoming sequel to Gladiator, but shared some insight into the roles he believes will be his last before he retires from acting altogether.
“I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make,” he said. “It’s probably not that many. I played Othello at 22. I am about to play Othello at 70. After that, I am playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking to Steve McQueen about a film.”
Then, without a moment of hesitation, Washington said, “After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next ‘Black Panther.’ After that, I’m going to do the film ‘Othello,’ After that, I’m going to do King Lear. After that, I’m going to retire.”
And just like that, Washington confirmed that there are plans for him to appear in the next Black Panther movie!

Now, a third Black Panther film has yet to be confirmed by Marvel Studios, but when a two-time Academy Award winner says that there’s a part waiting for them in a franchise you don’t take that lightly. Let alone when he says it might very well be one of his last films!
At this time, this is really the only news we have about the project. But with so many gaps in Marvel’s slate of upcoming films, we expect that to change some time in the near future.
