Well that was quick…
After bowing out of the MCU just five years ago and handing the mantle of Captain America to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, Chris Evans has joined the cast of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
According to The Wrap, although the actor is expected to be involved, it’s unclear what the extent or nature of his role will be. So it is very well possible that he could play another variant of Steve Rogers. Or reprise his role as Johnny Storm…
This news comes just a few months after Evans made another small return to the franchise in Deadpool & Wolverine as the latter.
The Russo Bros. will direct the film, as well as its planned sequel Avengers: Secret Wars. Both films will be written by Stephen McFeely, the scribe who previously penned all of the prior Russo Bros/Marvel movies from Winter Soldier to Endgame.
Prior to the Jonathan Majors controversy AND last year’s Hollywood strikes, both films were planned to come out next year. Avengers: Doomsday will now arrive in 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars will arrive in 2027.
“Avengers: Doomsday” is slated for release on May 1, 2026.
