20th Century Studios has acquired the long-awaited film adaptation of The Devil in the White City.
The studio is currently developing the film, with Leonardo DiCaprio in discussions to take on a lead role and Martin Scorsese considering the directing position. It draws inspiration from Erik Larson’s 2003 true-crime nonfiction book of the same title.
This version of the project is in its initial phases and does not yet have a completed script. Producers involved include DiCaprio, Scorsese, Stacey Sher, Rick Yorn, and Jennifer Davisson.
Set in Chicago during the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, it tells the story of World’s Fair architect Daniel Burnham and of H. H. Holmes, a criminal figure widely considered the first serial killer in the United States. Leonardo DiCaprio purchased the film rights in 2010.
At one point, the project was set up at Hulu with Keanu Reeves set to star, but the actor has since departed the project. what
