Last week, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Martin Scorsese’s next film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Emily Blunt and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had landed at Disney’s 20th Century Studios.
While those involved remained quiet initially, today Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took to Twitter (X) to confirm the news and speak more about his relationship to the project.
“Our Hawaiian crime saga now has a home at 20th Century & Disney.
I was a little boy growing up in Honolulu when this real life story was taking place and these real men – ruthlessly did what they had to do for respect, money, power but more importantly – for the reclamation of our Polynesian culture.
Working closely with Marty as his vision for our story begins to take focus, has been a gift to witness and absorb. I’m honored to work with this inspiring creative team, and even more blessed to call them my friends.
More to come.
Aloha.” – @TheRock

Written by journalist and author Nick Bilton, the still untitled movie is said to be based on a true story.
It’s also described as a cross between Scorsese’s Goodfellas and The Departed.
Per THR, the movie will revolve around of “a formidable and charismatic mob boss who rises to build the islands’ most powerful criminal empire, waging a brutal war against mainland corporations and rival syndicates while fighting to preserve his ancestral land. His ruthless quest for absolute power ignited the last great American mob saga, where the war for cultural survival takes place in the unlikeliest of places: paradise.”
Scorsese is producing via his Sikelia Productions banner, Johnson is producing via Seven Bucks Productions, DiCaprio is producing via his Appian Way Productions, and Blunt through her Ledbury Productions company. Bilton is also producing through his banner, True Story Productions.
Seven Bucks co-founder Dany Garcia will act as one of the film’s executive producers. Johnson and Garcia’s Seven Bucks signed a first-look deal with Disney earlier this year to develop films for theatrical and streaming. This is one of the first projects to come out from that partnership.
