Yesterday, anonymous scooping account MyTimeToShineHello published a seemingly random post to Twitter (X). It read seven surprising words: “Neve Campbell has been cast as Polaris.” But unlike some of the other unsolicited and sourceless pieces of info the account has posted in the past, this one turned out to be true.
Hours after the post was published, one former Marvel Studios employee confirmed the casting.
Beau DeMayo, who helped develop the first two seasons of Marvel’s animated X-Men reboot, reposted another account’s repost with the casting announcement, and shared that the info was slightly wrong.

“Incorrect,” he posted. “I cast her as Polaris in Season 2 of #XMen97. She does amazing working bringing something new, and felt right to have a 90s icon pick up where Lorna’s story was left in “Cold Comfort.”
“She’s got some thoughts on Genosha,” he concluded.
DeMayo was dismissed from Marvel Studios last year, for reasons that still have not become entirely public, despite the success of the animated series. Given his brief status as one of Marvel’s top writers, anything he says about X-Men ‘97 specifically should not be taken with a grain of salt. That means that Campbell’s involvement in the series is likely true.
Campbell can next be seen as the lead in upcoming seventh Scream film after sitting the last one out, and having a minor role in the Gen Z “requel” before that. So one could argue that her appearance in X-Men ’97 lines up with her recent return to the spotlight after several years of inactivity.
Unfortunately, we won’t know for sure until the second season returns. That won’t happen at least until next year.
