While we knew from D23 last year that the Incredibles would return to the big screen for Incredibles 3, we now know one key figure will not be returning.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peter Sohn, who directed Pixar’s surprise hit Elemental will takeover directing the franchise from Brad Bird, who is busy at work on his next animated feature, Netflix/Sony’s Ray Gunn.
That said Bird is still writing the screenplay for the third entry in the franchise, which will be produced by Bird and Dana Murray (Oscar-winning Soul).
The first film, The Incredibles, was released on November 5, 2004, and received acclaim from critics, winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The second film, Incredibles 2, was released on June 15, 2018, and received mostly positive reviews and set the record for best opening weekend for an animated film with $183 million. The series has grossed a combined $1.8 billion worldwide.
