About a year ago, Fede Álvarez revived the Alien saga with Alien: Romulus, which went on to gross roughly $350 million worldwide. 20th Century Studios quickly moved forward with plans for a follow-up, with Álvarez credited as the screenwriter and initially expected to direct.
Álvarez revealed at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights that he won’t direct the sequel. “We just finished the script for a Romulus follow-up,” he said, adding that he’ll hand directing duties to another filmmaker. He’ll remain involved as a producer alongside Ridley Scott, and they’re currently searching for someone new to lead the project, which again features Cailee Spaeny.
He penned the script to the sequel with Romulusco-writer Rodo Sayagues, who in all honesty could be the man to take on directing duties as he took over directing Don’t Breathe 2 for Alvarez in 2021.
