Just two years ago, after the release of Hocus Pocus 2, a Disney executive quietly confirmed that a third film was in the works.
While series star Bette Midler has spoken candidly in the past about returning for a third film, in a recent interview she’s come forward to say that the film is actually one step closer to happening.
Appearing on “Watch What Happens Live,” Midler said that producers were working on the “logistical things” and that shooting was expected to happen soon. However, what’s most surprising is that she said that she had actually seen an early script draft for the film.
As if that wasn’t exciting enough, she also called what she read “brilliant.”

The last time Midler even acknowladged the film was during an appearance on QVC last year. However, back then, she seemed to be begging for Disney to fast-track production.
Considering that the Sanderson sisters were seemingly laid to rest at the end of the last film, it’s a giant question mark where they might end up next.
The last we heard, Disney was playing with different ways to expand the franchise. One popular idea internally was having the next film focus on Hannah Waddingham’s Mother Witch. That project wouldn’t have seen the Sanderson Sisters play a major role, but that also could have changed.
Regardless, with such a massive fanbase, we don’t think magic or a miracle will be needed to see the Sanderson sisters reunited again.

In October 2022, Disney+ reported Hocus Pocus 2 was the service’s most-viewed film premiere in the United States, based on number of hours streamed in the first three days of its release. Disney later reported that Hocus Pocus 2 was the service’s most-viewed film.
Directed by Anne Fletcher, Hocus Pocus 2 stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Doug Jones reprising their roles from the 1993 original, with Sam Richardson, Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, Tony Hale, and Hannah Waddingham joining the cast in new roles. It is unknown who will return for the third entry in the now-beloved franchise.
