One of the most popular primetime TV shows of the last 20 years is coming back, though not in the way you might expect.
FOX’s Prison Break is being rebooted.
Late last year there were rumblings about the show coming back in some capacity, but according to Variety the show is coming back as a Hulu exclusive.
The cast includes Emily Browning, Drake Rodger, Lukas Gage, Clayton Cardenas, JR Bourne, Georgie Flores and Myles Bullock.
While it features a cast of new characters, the outlet reports the show will take place in the same universe as the original series.
The plot synopsis is as follows:
“An ex-soldier turned corrections officer (Browning) takes a job at one of the deadliest prisons in America to prove just how far she’ll go for someone she loves.”

The original series ran for 4 seasons. However, a fifth season was produced nearly a decade after the original “finale.” Since then, an unsuccessful spin-off has been produced and there have been rumblings of a potential sixth season of the show. However, with this announcement, it seems like 20th Century is focusing on a fresh start for the franchise.
Elgin James (Mayans M.C.) serves as the writer, showrunner, and executive producer on the series in addition to directing the pilot. Dawn Olmstead executive produces along with “Prison Break” creator Paul Scheuring. 20th Television, which produced the original show, will distribute.
