It has been quite a while since we have done a mailbag, but we are back as 2025 comes to a close and we head toward a new year. This week we discuss what’s going on with Tangled, where Hocus Pocus 3 is at, some Pixar takes, and much more.
What are some names that you heard where in consideration for the Tangled live action movie that are no longer in the mix?
Names have floated around like candy regarding this remake, which is now back in development. Let’s get some names out of the way, Sabrina Carpenter has not met with or been considered for the role despite online rumors. Disney at one point had McKenna Grace on the radar but this was before the studio pushed pause on the project earlier this year, now that development is back on it unknown if she is still amongst the names that will test for role. Sources say names are being put together for testing this month.
Do you think Disney will work with Timothée Chalamet or Jonathan Bailey in the near future?
What a year both actors are having with Chalamet receiving buzz for Marty Supreme and Bailey with Jurassic World and Wicked. While both have worked with Disney in the past, there names will certainly be considered for high profile projects in the future. Whether or not they consider those projects is an entirely different question.
What is the status of the live action Hercules movie?
Latest I have heard regarding the project is that they are moving away from the Hades-centric story to be a more accurate remake to the animated original (you can thank the success of Lilo & Stitch for that), which has put this project in limbo as new script is being written. We probably wont hear much regarding this project until D23 next year.
Will a Big Hero 6 sequel ever happen?
At this point, a true Big Hero 6 sequel doesn’t look very likely, at least not anytime soon. The decision mainly rests with original co-director Don Hall, and so far he hasn’t shown any interest in coming back to it, not to mention, he is currently working on an original animated film for Skydance Animation. That doesn’t mean a sequel could never happen if Hall or someone else decided to take it on, things could change. But right now there’s no development underway, no script, no green light, and nothing from Disney to suggest a new movie is in the works.
Do you think with the development of Monstropolis at DHS we’ll see more theatrical entries in the ‘Monsters’ franchise?
Let me start by saying I have not confirmed this or even saying this is remotely true but I 100% believe Pixar has plans to bring the Monsters universe back to the big screen. Keep in mind, I was one of the first people to tell you via mailbag that Pixar was developing Incredibles 3 just a few months before it was confirmed over a year ago. So, let’s see if the mailbag magic continues.
When will Frozen 4 come out ? Can we expected it in 2028?
Well, Frozen 3 is currently scheduled to come out November 24, 2027 and while 2028 seems like a good guess since they developing 3 and 4 back to back, it would be more likely we will see Frozen 4 in 2029. Again, Disney’s D23 Expo will be the place where we find this out.
Is BLADE at this point cancelled aside from Feige telling us what we want to hear that it’s ’still In dev’?
I have to admit, when it comes to Marvel info I am not the best at nailing this stuff down. That said, despite everyone saying it is still in development, I believe this movie is dead and that any introduction of Blade into the MCU will come in the form of an Avengers or Midnight Sons movie and even then that won’t be until Secret Wars or even later at this point as the studio gets ready to introduce the X-Men.
What could Disney’s next live actions be that they are planning after Tangled and could they adapt Brave even though it is pixar?
Hercules would definitely be next outside of sequels like Lilo & Stitch and The Lion King. Disney has no interest in making remakes to their Pixar library and the Pixar team would agree. However, Brave would be one of the only projects that could benefit from a live-action remake.
Any updates for Cruella 2?
Disney still has plans to get this done with Emma Stone and director Craig Gillespie but as of now, there are no official updates on the project.
Any news on Hocus Pocus 3? I heard they were to begin filming in January but doesn’t look likely!
It is still in development and a script was turned in over the Summer, which apparently was liked by the studio. The wheels are turning but there is no production start date as of yet.
