Disney fans are getting the goods to start the new year with the recent Tangled casting to Disneyland bringing in the original Star Wars characters to Galaxy’s Edge. It appears we are in for a good year from the house of mouse. This week, we discuss Pirates of the Caribbean, Blade, Super Bowl trailers, and so much more.
Last week a report came out form scooper Jeff Sneider regarding Blade is Dead, any truth to that at all?
You know what’s funny, we reported on this rumor over the weekend, as we entered the new week I had a friend who is in the know in regards to Marvel Studios and they told me that the rumor is not entirely true and that Blade is still in development, and Midnight Sons would come after both projects would be after Secret Wars and likely around the time the X-Men movie is released. That said, it’s always good to take most rumors regarding Marvel Studios with a grain of salt.
Can you please give us an update on Pirates of the Caribbean 6?
I have heard multiple stories were turned in, and the creatives are working out where they want the story to go, but one of the latest iterations does in fact have Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow. Again, I can’t 100% confirm this, just another thing a source told me, but I do buy it.
Is Mason Thames seriously in the running for Power Rangers?
I’m sure Disney would like him in a role but his name is a “prototype name” for example during the development of Cruella Emma Thompson was originally the “prototype name” for the role of the Baroness but the studio was interested Nicole Kidman, Demi Moore, Charlize Theron, and Julianne Moore, well in this case the studio ended up casting Thompson, which isn’t always the case with prototype names.
Does Kathryn Hahn officially have the role of Gothel or are there others in mind in case she declines?
She’s in talks, which most of the time means the deal will get done and at this point, I believe she won’t decline and is Mother Gothel.
What happened to the Big Thunder Mountain movie?
The project has was put on hold. Disney wants to do it, so I’m sure at some point development will restart.
Next Lucasfilm project to start filming?
If you mean on the big screen, the Daisy Ridley-led Jedi film is furthest along so very likely that on the small screen, a fourth season of The Mandalorian following The Mandalorian & Grogu. At this point, with changes happening at the executive level at Lucasfilm, things can change.
I know you joked about this but with Moana & Tangled actually happening, how genuinely conceivable do you think an Encanto live-action remake is at this point?
At this point, I think it would be too early, but at some point it would happen and I think Encanto would be well-suited for a live-action remake. We will see what the future holds.
Does Disney have any plans for The Little Mermaid Ariel? Is there any film or cartoon planned to develop the franchise?
No films are planned. Disney gave us a remake and it sadly was a misfire from a financial standpoint, there is no sequel or spinoff coming. Now, in terms of animated specials/series, there is the children’s series Ariel on Disney Jr., but anything outside of that I have not heard anything.
Is James Wan’s live action Gargoyles series still happening?
It is still in development.
Does Lucasfilm still plan to release a Doctor Aphra solo series on Disney+ in the future??? There’s a good chance that the removed content will return to Disney+ soon??? I’m referring to the original content was removed on Disney+. Sorry for the mistakes in english, i am deaf and i am literate in brazilian sign language.
Don’t be sorry, first there is Doctor Aphra series in the works or in development at Lucasfilm. When it comes to content Disney+ will cycle content in and out, typically it will be projects that were not a success initially for example Willow and Crater but at some point the streamer will get the content back, when that happens, nobody really knows.
Ratatouille 2 is in the works?
No
Will there be a High School Musical 4 or Cheetah Girls 4?
A new High School Musical, reboot/sequel? That I do not know.
Which Super Bowl trailers can we expect from Disney?
Nothing is confirmed yet as we are still a few weeks from the big game, but the likely candidates are Mandalorian & Grogu, Moana, Toy Story 5, and Avengers: Doomsday. On Sony’s side, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
We know that Lilo & Stitch 2 and the Tangeld remake are happening. But after Moana, Disney live-action doesn’t have any more release dates for their upcoming movies. Which one of the two do you think will be released after Moana?
Well, both will start filming later this year, but Tangled will likely come first. There is a possibility that both will get some sort of Summer/Fall 2027 release.
