A new supernatural comedy-drama series set to premiere later this year, Coven Academy, has expanded its cast, with Devon Sawa joining the project after the initial casting announcement was made in 2025.
Sawa has most recently played various roles in the Chucky series (2021-2024). Sawa has been recognized for his starring role in the 2000 film Final Destination, as well as for starring opposite Christina Ricci in the 1995 film Casper, a film beloved by the entire family.
Sawa will be playing the role of Mr. Cole, an effortlessly charismatic teacher who has grown tired of his students confusing raw ability with actual preparation. “He’s the kind of teacher who can tease you and defend you at the same time—a fundamentally decent man who just so happens to be a powerful warlock. School life is business as usual for the staff of Coven Academy until the arrival of an unexpected new student who is about to shake things up for everyone.”
Coven Academy was given the go-ahead in August 2025 and is set to premiere on Disney+ and Disney Channel. According to the synopsis of the series, “A group of teenage witches band together to save New Orleans from an impending dark force. Coven Academy is created by Tim Federle, who is best known for serving as the showrunner for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
