Back in January it was announced that DeWanda Wise had signed on to Marvel Studios’ first female-fronted superhero blockbuster Captain Marvel in a mystery role. However Wise left the project due to scheduling conflicts with the second season of her Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It.
Now According to The Hollywood Reporter, Still Star-Crossed star Lashana Lynch has been signed on to replace Wise.
Mississipi Grind helmers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are directing from a script written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve. The project kicked off production this past January.
Lynch boards a cast that also includes Jude Law as Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva and Ben Mendelsohn as the film’s main villain. The film takes place in the ’90s and is set to introduce the Skrulls to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Captain Marvel will hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
