Obi-Wan Movie Was Rumored To Be Eyed For Disney’s Streaming Service

Following the disappointing performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story at the box office, Lucasfilm had to debunk rumors it had put a hold on all Star Wars standalone movies. Well, as it stands, one of the most talked-about ones, the Obi-Wan Kenobi solo project, was at one point being rumored for Disney’s streaming service. According to The Playlist, in order for the service, expected to launch next year, to compete with Netflix, Disney wants a high-profile series and studio execs were eyeing the adventures of the Jedi Master to do as such. For a while, Ewan McGregor has indicated he’d love to reprise the role although there’s never been confirmation of a plot or director in the wake of his last performance in Revenge of the Sith. It was expected the spinoff would be in between this film and A New Hope, and it would start shooting in Northern Ireland in 2019. Past rumors also indicated it would possibly draw from the recent Marvel Comics where the Jedi was on Tatooine overseeing Luke Skywalker. Recently, a Mos Eisley flick about the seedy underbelly in the Star Wars universe, as well as a Boba Fett spinoff from Logan director James Mangold, were two projects Lucasfilm was said to also be looking at. That is until the brakes had to reportedly be pumped with Solo failing to bring in the big bucks.
