Marvel’s standalone Black Widow film is set to begin production in the coming months. However, the film’s script is getting a rewrite.
According to Collider, Marvel Studios has tapped Ned Benson to rewrite the script. The studio was reportedly impressed with Benson’s work on The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. Jac Schaeffer had written the previous draft of the script. She’s best known for writing the screenplay for Captain Marvel. as well as writing and executive producing The Vision and Scarlet Witch, coming to Disney+.
My writing partner over at HN Entertainment, Christopher Marc exclusively revealed that pre-production work on Black Widow is taking place Pinewood Studios UK in Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, England. The film will be under the working title Blue Bayou during production.
Directed by Cate Shortland (Lore) the standalone film will see the return of Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff. Plot details on the project are being kept under wraps at this time. However, we reported on character breakdowns a couple months back.
Black Widow is eyeing a 2020 release date.
Scarlett Johannson’s debut as Natasha Romanoff was in Iron Man 2. In the comics, Natasha Romanoff was trained by the Winter Soldier himself, Bucky Barnes played by Sebastian Stan in the films. Rumors have swirled that Marvel was planning to make Black Widow the studio’s first R-rated comic book film, however, this has yet to be confirmed.
