Terrier Mix Star of ‘Lady and the Tramp’ Live-Action is Former Rescue Dog

Saying “every dog has its day” really doesn’t do Monte’s story justice; it’s more of a Cinderella story if you ask us.

Before being cast as Tramp in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Lady in the Tramp – coming to Disney’s streaming service, Disney+ on November 12 – two-year-old terrier mix Monte was a rescue dog in a shelter in Phoenix, Arizona.

HALO Animal Rescue staff describe Monte as a friendly and loving dog who enjoys lots of attention.

“We have a celebrity dog in our midst!” HALO Animal Rescue wrote on their Facebook page last week, along with a photo of Monte and his cutie co-star, a cocker spaniel called Rose.

“His adopters [who live in California] say he’s been such a good boy and loving life,” said the shelter. “We are all so happy for him and can’t wait to check out the movie when it comes out!”

Hearts. Melted.

Actor Justin Theroux will be providing a human voice for Monte, in between woofs.

Earlier this month, People.com released first look photos of the Lady and the Tramp live-action.

Lady and the Tramp will be directed by Charlie Bean and will feature voices from Tessa Thompson, Justin Theroux, Janelle Monae, Ashley Jensen, Benedict Wong and Sam Elliot.  The film is set to drop the same day Disney+ becomes available to the public on November 12 2019.
