Michelle Yeoh Rumored For Marvel Studios’ ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’

UPDATE 1/21/2020 11:45AM

ComicBook.com is now reporting that Yeoh is indeed in talks for the project and that the role will not be for Starhawk, but a new role altogether. A similar situation that saw Captain Marvel actress Gemma Chan take on a new role in this year’s Eternals.

Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is about to kick off production, and there is still a lot of mystery surrounding the film, but one thing is for sure the cast is continuing to grow.

Now according to The Weekly Planet Podcast, Crazy Rich Asians star Michelle Yeoh has joined the film in a yet to be determined role.

Yeoh is no stranger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as she appeared in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Aleta Ogord, also known as Starhawk. The podcast went on to say that Yeoh will return as Starhawk in Guardians 3, so it is safe to assume she would play the character in Shang-Chi.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Just Mercy), the film is set to star newcomer Simu Liu as the titular hero, popular Chinese actor Tony Leung (Infernal Affairs), and Awkwafina (Jumanji: The Next Level, Crazy Rich Asians) in an unknown role.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings will be in theaters on February 12, 2021.
