Jessica Chastain Turned Down ‘Doctor Strange’ Role According To Screenwriter

In a recent interview with JunkFood Cinema, Doctor Strange writer C. Robert Cargill revealed that Jessica Chastain (Dark Phoenix, Interstellar) was up for the role of Christine Palmer aka The Night Nurse, which eventually went to Rachael McAdams. READ: ‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel Continues Pre-Production and is Still Aiming to Begin Production in June “This is the interesting thing that Hollywood’s starting to find out, is that a lot of the actresses out there want to be superheroes as much as the actors do. I know this happened with Scott [Derrickson]. He went to Jessica Chastain to get her on Doctor Strange, because we were considering her. She’s like, ‘Hey, look, this project sounds awesome, and I would love to do it. But I’m only going to get one shot at being in a Marvel film and becoming a Marvel character; and I trained in ballet, and I really want to wear a cape.’ And that was the coolest rejection ever. She wanted to be in a Marvel movie, but she wanted to be the superhero, not the badass doctor Night Nurse.” Rachel McAdams Won't Return For Doctor Strange in the Multiverse ... It would have been interesting to see Jessica Chastain in the role but Rachael McAdams played the role perfectly. It’s a shame that we haven’t seen her since. However, McAdam’s Christine Palmer was not the only Night Nurse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rosario Dawson played Claire Temple in the Netflix series Daredevil. In the comics, her character takes up the mantel of The Night Nurse, to help aid super heroes with their injuries. What do guys think? Could we see Chastain in the future with a cape? If so, which character? Let us know in the comments below or on our Instagram or Twitter! The film’s sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, scheduled for a May 7, 2021 release. Directed by Sam Raimi (the original Spider-Man trilogy) and written by Jade Bartlett (The Turning), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will see the return of Benedict Cumberbatch as the sorcerer supreme, Benedict Wong as Wong, and will introduce Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch as her Disney+ series WandaVision will lead directly into the film. Rachel McAdams who played Dr. Christine Palmer in the first film is not expected to return.
