It seems another hero may be joining the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special! A poster of Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo from Eternals was seen on what looks to be the set of the special. Filming occurred on Hollywood Boulevard today in front of the Chinese Theater where multiple members of the cast and crew of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film were seen. It is unknown if this filming is for the film or the special, however the Christmas decorations hint towards the latter.
Reddit user u/bgrandis7 posted multiple photos and a description of the scene being filmed. One photo is of the poster of Kingo showing one of his Bollywood films. Others show director James Gunn as well as Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) performing some scene in front of the Chinese Theater.
Check out the photos below:
Another user on Twitter, @Pokedan4 posted videos of the set with Dave Bautista and Pom Klementieff. These videos do not show the Kingo poster, however they do show the two actors and the multitude of Christmas decorations adorning the set.
It is still unknown if the poster of Kingo is just a fun reference or if Kumail Nanjiani himself will appear in the special. James Gunn has commented before about having Kumail appear as a cameo in Volume 3 before his role in Eternals. It wouldn’t be surprising if the actor made some sort of appearance in either the film or special.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and its accompanying Holiday Special seem to be wrapping up filming very soon. Very little is known about both projects however, James Gunn has stated they will be the last appearances of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy. The special hits Disney+ this holiday season with Vol 3 debuting in theaters on May 5th, 2023.
