‘Schitt’s Creek’ Moving to Hulu as The Streamer Gains The Rights

Hulu has gained the rights to the hit comedy series Schitt’s Creek from Netflix. All six seasons of the series will officially make the move this Fall, starting October 3, Deadline has learned.

The move puts Schitt’s Creek in Hulu’s extensive library of hit comedies with Hulu’s own originals roster, Abbott Elementary, Pen15, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Only Murders in the Building, Ramy, Dollface, How I Met Your Father, Shrill, and Solar Opposites.

“Based on the number of Schitt’s Creek GIFs we Slack every day, it’s no surprise that we are absolutely thrilled to welcome Johnny, Moira, Alexis, ‘Daviiid’ and the wonderfully unique residents of Schitt’s Creek to Hulu,” Hulu president Joe Earley said. “We can’t wait to share the award-winning, blisteringly-funny, yet heartwarming series and characters with our subscribers. We know they’ll fit in nicely.”

The series follows the wealthy Rose family—video store magnate Johnny (Eugene Levy), his wife and former soap opera actress Moira (Catherine O’Hara), and their pampered adult children David (Dan Levy) and Alexis (Annie Murphy)—lose their fortune after being defrauded by their business manager. They rebuild their lives with their sole remaining asset: a small, remote town in Ontario named Schitt’s Creek, which Johnny bought for David as a joke birthday gift in 1991. The Roses are forced to relocate to Schitt’s Creek, moving into two adjacent rooms in a run-down motel. While the family adjusts to their new lives, their well-to-do attitudes come into conflict with the more provincial residents of Schitt’s Creek, including mayor Roland Schitt (Chris Elliott), his wife Jocelyn (Jenn Robertson), and their son Mutt (Tim Rozon), the motel’s manager Stevie Budd (Emily Hampshire), town council members Ronnie Lee (Karen Robinson) and Bob Currie (John Hemphill), the veterinarian Ted Mullens (Dustin Milligan) and Jazzagal member and Café Tropical waitress Twyla Sands (Sarah Levy).

In 2020, Schitt’s Creek punctuated its run by sweeping at the Emmys, capturing seven primetime awards and nine Emmys in all, including Outstanding Comedy Series. Schitt’s Creek is produced by Not A Real Company Productions and created by Eugene Levy and Daniel Levy. In addition to the Levys, the show’s executive producers are Andrew Barnsley, Fred Levy, David West Read, and Ben Feigin. Lionsgate distributes domestically, with international handled by ITV Studios Global Entertainment.
