‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ are Swapping Release Dates

Disney has made the move to swap two of their biggest Marvel Studios projects release dates in 2023.

The Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels is being pushed off its February 17, 2023 release date and will debut July 28, 2023. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which was dated for July 28, 2023, will now move into the February 17 spot.

Variety says the swap was a matter of Quantumania simply being further along in its creative process than The Marvels, as the former has wrapped principle photography while the Captain Marvel sequel still has a bit more to go. Marvel Studios’ other big theatrical release in 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is still set to debut on May 5, 2023.

Marvel Studios’ The Marvels will feature Brie Larson returning to the role of Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers. In the film, she’ll be joined by Teyonah Parris, who was first introduced as adult Monica Rambeau in Marvel Studios’ WandaVision, along with Iman Vellani, who will appear as Ms. Marvel in the upcoming Disney+ series of the same name. The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton, Tessa Thompson, Lashana Lynch, Seo Jun Park, and Zenobia Shroff. The film is expected to be connected to the Disney+ series’ Ms. Marvel and Secret Invasion. The highly-anticipated sequel is directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman) and Megan McDonnell, who wrote the script, hot after her success on WandaVision

Director Peyton Reed is returning to helm Quantumania. Details on the project are being kept under wraps, but franchise stars Paul Rudd (Scott Lang aka Ant-Man), Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne aka Wasp), Michael Dough (Dr. Hank Pym), and Michelle Pfeiffer (Janet Van Dyne) are all expected to return to the heist-adventure film series. Jonathan Majors will return as Kang the Conqueror, as will Corey Stoll as Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket. Bill Murray will also appear in an unknown role. Jeff Loveness (Rick and Morty) wrote the script.
