New Look at ‘Ms. Marvel’ Released

In one month, witness the beginning of a new Avenger, or should we say, young Avenger! Marvel Studios has released a brand new look at their upcoming series, Ms. Marvel, streaming June 8.

The 30-second look, which shows off some cool special effects and family aspects, comes just a day after it was reported that Bollywood superstar, Farhan Akhtar will be part of the cast. Details regarding the character are under wraps, though his participation has been couched as a guest-starring role.

Ms. Marvel stars Iman Vellani, who is also set to appear alongside Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris in the Captain Marvel sequel recently retitled to The Marvels. The series also stars the Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer, Nimra Bucha, and Farhan Akhtar.

The new series introduces Kamala Khan (Vellani), a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega-fan with an oversized imagination — particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home — that is, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with superpowers, right?

Bisha K. Ali serves as head writer on the series. Bad Boys for Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah direct along with two-time Oscar doc short winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and The Walking Dead director Meera Menon. Ms. Marvel will begin streaming on Disney+ in the U.S. starting June 8 with Pakistan getting a special theatrical release.
