Taika Waititi Teases Ideas For A Potential Fifth ‘Thor’ Film

Thor: Love and Thunder hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but that hasn’t stopped Taika Waititi from talking about where he’d like to take the character next.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Academy Award-winning writer and director made it clear that he only ever has one goal: to take whatever annoys MCU fans and to make them love it.

He said, “What would really annoy the fans? That’s really the only thing that I’m interested in. Whatever the fans don’t want. Let’s find out what the fans don’t want on Reddit, and then that will be the next Thor film.

“The challenge for me is then to make something to make them love it, you know?” he added.

He then joked that the next movie could be something as silly as a buddy road trip movie to Vegas set during Christmastime, before visibly getting excited about the idea and telling his team to “take this down.”

“A Chris Christmas,” he said, implying Chris Pratt would be back to venture off with Hemsworth’s Thor. “Star Lord. Thor. Roadtrip movie. Christmas. They’ve got to get to someone’s house for Christmas.”

While another Thor movie has not been green-lit yet, considering the overwhelmingly positive reviews the film has been getting it might be a no-brainer for Marvel to let Waititi finish his “trilogy”.

Although the film is expected to follow the soryline from Jason Aaron‘s Thor run, in which Jane Foster proves herself worthy of wielding Mjölnir and takes up the mantle of God of Thunder, it’s official synopsis is as follows:

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame (in 2019), Thor attempts to find inner peace, but must return to action and recruit Valkyrie, Korg, and Jane Foster—who has become the Mighty Thor—to stop Gorr the God Butcher from eliminating all gods.

Direcred by Taika Waititi, aside from Portman, the film features the return of franchise stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and sees the addition of Academy Award Winner Christian Bale as the Gorr the God Butcher.

The Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, and Sean Gunn will also appear, while Jamie Alexander, Jeff Goldblum, and Russell Crowe will also have roles, alongside Sam Neill, Matt Damon, and Melissa McCarthy who will have cameos.

The film hits theaters Friday.
