Fresh off the news that director Bassam Tariq has left the highly anticipated Blade project due to “schedule and production shifts”, production of the film is on pause, as Marvel searches for a new director.
According to Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter, the Mahershala Ali led film will stop production work in Atlanta for the time being until a new director is in that chair and the story is more polished.
With word that the script was going through rewrites led by Beau DeMayo (Moon Knight, X-Men 97, The Witcher) it would seem that this movie will once again have some sort of delay. The tentative release date is Nov. 3, 2023, but it’d be a miracle if it kept that. According to the same THR article, their source said they want to take their time “to get it right”.
Fans will surely be disappointed but in the long run, should be happy. Getting the right director behind the camera along with Mahershala’s passion (Calling Feige himself to get the role!) for the character, this is still shaping up to be a special film. With Werewolf By Night fresh in their minds, fans are clamoring for the bump in the night characters to make their long awaited appearances in this universe.
Hopefully we don’t have to wait much longer.
