Since Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch resumed filming last month, we’ve started to see and hear a lot of cool new things about the project.

For instance, did you know that Captain Gantu will appear in the film?

The latest bit of buzz about the project, however, comes from new photos of Billy Magnussen on set. Now, Magnussen has been cast as Pleakley in the film. But as fans of the original will know, Pleakley is an alien. Still, recent set photos (courtesy of Just Jared) show Magnussen prancing around as himself – no costume (kinda), no makeup, and no prosthetics.

If you’re wondering why Magnussen looks so “normal,” well we might actually have an answer for you.

From what we’ve heard, Magnussen will still be an alien in the film, but he’ll just possess specific tech that allows him to look human.

Until the film comes out, we won’t know for sure. Judging by Disney’s updated film slate for this year that wait might not be as long as we think.

Lilo and Stitch will once again tell the story of “the bond formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who is engineered to be a force of destruction. Pursuing aliens, social workers, and the idea of the bond of family figure into the proceedings.”

Newcomer Maia Kealoha stars as Lilo Pelekai, Zach Galifianakis as the voice of Dr. Jumba Jookiba, Billy Magnussen as the voice of Agent Pleakley, Sydney Agudong as Nani Pelekai, Kaipo Dudoit as David Kawena, Tia Carrere as Mrs. Kekoa, Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles, Amy Hill as Tūtū, Jason Scott Lee as a luau manager, and Chris Sanders, who reprises his role as Stitch.

The film is be directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, and produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, the producing duo who brought us the billion dollar Aladdin remake in 2019.

Filming began on the project back in May and was put on hold in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Filming has since restarted and is expected to wrap in March. While strike was ongoing, the team began work on some of the post-production.

Now, we have also heard a teaser has been but together but it’s unclear if we’ll see it anytime soon.
