Monsters Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue to Remain Open Until 2027

Fans of the Monsters Inc. dark ride Mike & Sulley to the Rescue at Disney’s California Adventure are getting a tiny bit of good news.

According to the O.C. Register, the attraction will now stay open until 2027. This extension comes after an original plan to close it in early 2026, as announced by Disneyland Resort President Thomas Mazloum during a recent press briefing.

This ride will continue to operate while preparations begin in early 2026 for a new Avatar-themed land in an underutilized section of DCA’s Hollywood Backlot. Mazloum assured that the ride’s extended operation will not affect the construction schedule for the Avatar area.

The project management team at Disneyland has successfully organized the construction of new attractions in the Avengers Campus, alongside a new Coco-themed boat ride, and the Avatar land, all without requiring the closure of the Monsters, Inc. attraction or delaying the timeline for these upcoming features.

Walt Disney Imagineering is currently in the early stages of developing the Avatar project, which is anticipated to open sometime in 2028 or 2029.
