Marvel Studios’ ‘X-Men’ has found their Emma Frost!

Looks like we just go our first official X-Men casting after no news from San Diego Comic Con last week.

Confirmed by Deadline, Australian actress Samara Weaving has been cast to play Emma Frost for the upcoming ‘X-Men’ reboot film from Marvel Studios.

Emma Frost is a telepathic Mutant like Professor Charles Xavier and Jean Grey. She debuted in the Uncanny X-Men comic issue #129 where another Mutant name Kitty Pryde was also introduced. Frost was co-created by X-Men writer Chris Claremont and artist/co-writer John Byrne.

In the comics, Frost is known for being a villain to the X-Men and even ended up joining the team. Her nickname was “White Queen” of the Hellfire Club, which is a villainous social club towards the X-Men who are run by wealthy elites mutants. One of their most famous appearances was the comic book storyline “The Dark Phoenix Saga”.

Frost became one of Marvel’s powerful female heroes, villains, notably labeled as a femme fatale.

Frost was recently portrayed by January Jones in X-Men: First Class back in 2011 in the Fox X-Men Universe and now will be played by Weaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Weaving was landed the role earlier this week by director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige after extensive search according to Deadline. Marvel executives and Schreier have been meeting and auditioning actors for the Mutant superheroes for numerous roles including the character Frost, which has been the biggest search amongst the cast.

Auditions for Frost took place after July 4th with confirmation that Weaving’s audition was too hard to beat.

Weaving being known as a Scream Queen for her horror work including Scream VI, 2019’s horror-comedy Ready or Not, and the 2026 sequel, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. She is also the niece of Hugo Weaving, famously known as “Agent Smith” in the Matrix Trilogy, “Elrond” in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogy and of course “Johann Schmidt aka Red Skull” in the MCU film Captain America: The First Avenger.

the upcoming X-Men film will be directed by Thunderbolts* director Schreier along with Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-creator Joanna Cole penning the script.

With two Mutants already cast, we should hopefully expect more in the coming weeks with D23 coming soon.
