Director Taika Waititi was recently spotted meeting with Ryan Gosling, could this mean that the La La Land actor is discussing a project with the Thor: Ragnarok director?
Just Jared spotted the two having a long lunch in Los Angeles. Waititi has two projects in development and is reportedly already meeting with actors for roles, so it’s likely what this lunch meeting was for so let’s discuss.
First up, before returning to Asgard, Waititi is set to direct Next Goals Wins for Disney’s Fox Searchlight, based on the documentary of the same name. The film will follow Dutch coach Thomas Rongen attempts the nearly impossible task of turning the American Samoa soccer team from perennial losers into winners.
So could Gosling being playing the coach? Not likely, the real-life coach is in his 60’s and Gosling is over 25 years to young for that role. He won’t be playing a Samoan soccer player for obvious reasons. That would mean Gosling would either play an assistant coach, or a reporter covering the team, which is always possible.
Filming on Next Goal Wins begins later this year.
After filming Next Goal Wins comes the BIGGER project, Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder. Which begins filming next year, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings at Fox Studios in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Now, we could spend hours guessing which unused character Gosling could play but that would take way to long. My guess here is this is a more likely scenario as Gosling has always wanted to appear in a blockbuster like this. Ryan was also at one point in talks to be a part of Taika‘s film Akira, which is currently on hold while he works on the fourth Thor flick.
Do you think this meeting was for one these projects? If so, which one? Let us know in the comments.
