The long-awaited expansion of Walt Disney Studios Park and the Disneyland Paris resort was announced in 2018. It included confirmation that lands themed to Marvel, Frozen, and Star Wars would be coming to the park in a €2 billion expansion.

After delays due to the pandemic, Marvel Avengers Campus replaced the Backlot and will be opening in just a few weeks, while The World of Frozen is currently under construction. But it’s the third land that has remained a bit of a mystery.

Originally announced as a Star Wars themed-area, the concept art and the planning permission documents showed the area to be a scaled-down version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with only a few shops and the flagship attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Many fans voiced disappointment that despite the €2 billion expansion, Disney still found a way to short-change Disneyland Paris, but now it seems that Star Wars may not be coming to Walt Disney Studios at all.

Disneyphile has reported that Disneyland Paris president Natacha Rafalski half-confirmed that the third land has been taken back to the drawing boards.
In an interview on French television, Rafalski was asked: The third themed area mentioned in 2018 concerned the Star Wars universe, but it is no longer mentioned today. Is it still planned?

Rafalski confirmed: We are still working on the third theme. We will make announcements about this when we are ready.

This could mean two things: the area is being reworked or has been cancelled entirely. Disney may be reconsidering the area due to the mixed reception the US Galaxy’s Edge areas received upon opening. If it has been canned, we could see either Pandora: The World of Avatar or Cars Land fly over to France and take up the space reserved for Star Wars. Pandora and Cars have been two long-standing rumours of lands that Disney has reportedly considered for future expansions.
