Looks like Abbott Elementary won’t be the only academic-based series at Disney anymore.
According to Deadline, Disney Branded Television has greenlit a pilot for a series called Eerie Prep. It’ll be based on the best-selling “Eerie Elementary” children’s book series by Max Brallier, written under the pseudonym Jack Chabert.
While the book follows a third grade boy named Sam Graves, as the name implies, the series will follow an older girl as she navigates prep school. Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey star Madalen Mills will play the lead role.
The plot synopsis is as follows:
“In Eerie Prep (aka Eerie Academy), when her sister vanishes from the prestigious Eerie Prep, Sam Graves (Mills) assembles a team of uniquely skilled students to uncover the truth behind a series of strange, supernatural occurrences—and to confront whoever, or whatever, is behind the disappearance.’
The pilot will be directed by Eric Dean Seaton and showrun by M. Raven Metzner. Supporting cast members include Niko Ceci (I Woke a Vampire), Charlie Ellis, Madison Rojas, Michaela Russell and Alex Bar, with Hanna Huffman and Felicia Day guest starring.
Eerie Prep is the latest in what appears to be an attempt to rebuild the slate at Disney Channel and Disney+ with kid-friendly originals. The show joins freshman series Vampirina and Electric Bloom, as well as the currently in-development Holes and Coven Academy and potentially even a new Muppets show!
If a full series is greenlit, the show will premiere on Disney+ and Disney Channel some time next year.
