Hyperspace Mountain

Space Mountain gets Star Wars theming on April 29….

What do you get when you cross one of the most beloved film franchises of all time with one of the world’s most adored theme park attractions? Hyperspace Mountain. That’s right; Star Wars will again infiltrate the hallowed retrofuturism of Disneyland’s Tomorrowland as Space Mountain gets a Force-fueled makeover.

Disneyland.com explains that guests can “hurtle through hyperspace while dodging furious dogfights during this high-speed Star Wars adventure” beginning April 29.

This incarnation of Hyperspace Mountain is not the first time that the Star Wars universe has invaded Space Mountain.

Not So Long Ago….

In The OCR, venerable theme-park reporter Brady MacDonald explained:

The Star Wars-themed overlay of the Space Mountain coaster was first introduced during the 2015 Season of the Force event. Scenes of X-Wings, Starfighters and even the Millennium Falcon flash on the interior walls of Space Mountain as riders race through the dark aboard the indoor coaster. The highlight: A TIE fighter that heads right for the coaster train with an effect reminiscent of the boulder scene in the Indiana Jones Adventure.

MacDonald also noted that Space Mountain will be down for one day, April 28.

Your mission begins with a briefing from Admiral Ackbar—the Rebel Alliance needs help flying reconnaissance vessels to survey an Imperial Star Destroyer. After being escorted into hyperspace by an elite X-wing squadron, you arrive only to find the Star Destroyer waiting with a swarm of TIE fighters—it’s a trap!

As Rebel forces valiantly battle Imperial vessels, you’re caught up in a barrage of blaster fire. Maneuvers become more intense as you join the Rebel squadron for one final, courageous assault on the menacing Star Destroyer. It’s an epic Star Wars combat scene taken straight from the films—but hurry, Hyperspace Mountain is only open for a limited time!

Obviously, and these days, the virtual reality rides in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge take the headlines. But Lucasfilm fans will enjoy the real-life thrills and chills of the Star Wars themed overlay of Hyperspace Mountain. Check it out and let us know what you think in the comments below.
