RUMOR: Marvel’s ‘Blade’ Revamp Has Found A New Director

It’s been exactly one month since the highly anticipated Blade reboot lost its director. That was just days before the film was supposed to begin production.

Now, a new rumor suggests that Marvel Studios may have already sunk its teeth into a replacement. And the name may surprise you.

According to our friends over at The Cosmic Circus, director Elegance Bratton is stepping up to the plate. Sources close to the site say that the indie darling is on “a shortlist”, but Editor-in-Chief Lizzie Hill seems fairly confident that he may already have the gig.

For those both familiar and unfamiliar with Bratton’s work, he obviously isn’t as big as someone like Michael Giacchino – who many wanted to helm the film after how great of a job he did with Werewolf By Night. With a brand new film backed by powerhouse production company A24 coming out next month, that might change. And if Lizzie is right, Marvel may have just grabbed a massively talented artist before they hit the mainstream.

Bratton’s forthcoming film, titled The Inspection, is set to come out on November 18th. The film revolves around a young, gay Black man, who after being rejected by his mother and with few options for his future, decides to join the Marines, doing whatever it takes to succeed in a system that would cast him aside.

Now keep in mind that because this news has not been confirmed by Marvel or any other major trades, there is a chance it may not be true. So we urge you to take it with a grain of salt.

Because of how important the project seems to be to Phase 5 and the future of the MCU, however, we anticipate an official announcement about the film’s new director soon.

Mahershala Ali is still on board as the titular character, who was famously played by Wesley Snipes in the 2000’s trilogy. Aaron Pierre, Delroy Lindo, are also still attached to star in currently unknown roles. We got to hear Ali’s Blade in a post-credit scene in 2021’s Eternals.
