From Chicago to a galaxy far, far away?
It’s been a minute since we got any news about The Mandalorian & Grogu. That changed earlier this evening when industry insider Jeff Sneider revealed that Jeremy Allen White has joined the project.
Making the announcement on The Kristian Harloff Show, Sneider explained that he had just gotten the news over the weekend. He also revealed that the character wouldn’t be a human, but would still be someone fans would recognize.

Pulling out a notebook, he flashed the screen to reveal the name Rotta the Hutt. In case you need a refresher, Rotta was the name of the baby Hutt that Ahsoka Tano took care of in the animated Clone Wars film.
Sneider explained that the role would a voice-over only. Seeing has how the character has been M.I.A since the film, this would mark both his return to the franchise and live-action debut.
No other info was revealed about the film. And plot details are scarce. But we do know at the very least that Jon Favreau is directing.
The film is set to be the first theatrical Star Wars project since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. It will also be the first theatrical movie based off a Disney+ series.
The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theaters in May 2026.
Shortly after Sneider’s scoop began circling the web, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed it.
