Marvel’s Phase Four Will Conclude With ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

One of the many things announced at Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con panel: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will mark the end of Marvel’s Phase Four.

Considering that Guardians of the Galaxy’s Holiday Special comes out one month later, it’s an interesting place to end things. If it exudes even half of the spectacle promised in the first official trailer, then it may prove to be a good place to end things.

Interestingly enough, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be the first project to kick off the studio’s Phase 5.

Ryan Coogler will once again direct the feature with the core cast from the film also returning. Aside from Wright, confirmed cast members include Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, and Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi. The film will mark the debut of Dominique Thorne as the character Riri Williams aka Ironheart.

Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta was finally confirmed to be playing Namor in the film at the convention, while I May Destroy You‘s Michaela Coel has also been cast as Aneka, the Dora Milaje’s instructor

Having previously directed the first two installments, now that Quantumania has wrapped filming, Reed is the second director to complete a trilogy set within the MCU after Jon Watts.

In the film, Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will reprise their roles as the titular duo. Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer will also return as Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, the characters who donned the outfits and alter egos first.

New to the cast is Kathryn Newton. She’ll be replacing Emma Fuhrmann as Cassie Lang a.k.a Stature in the films going forward. Fuhrmann portrayed the character in Avengers: Endgame.

Additionally, Jonathan Majors is expected to reprise his role as Kang the Conquerer. Originally, it was believed that he would be making his debut in the film, but that was before he appeared in Loki as the character under the pseudonym “He Who Remains”. Whether or not the version of the character we meet will be a variant or the actual version we’ve already met remains to be seen. Bill Murray is also set to appear in an undisclosed role, while there are rumors that Yellowjacket could reappear too.

The film comes out February 16, 2023.
